Our Journey

Some of my best memories growing up was camping with my father and siblings. The memories we created will last a lifetime. I loved camping so much I decided to join the Army out of high school. After serving 23 years in the Army, I wanted to continue to camp and make more of those lasting memories. My wife, Lee, and I are avid athletes and decided we would travel to races and camp. Our journey started in a Sprinter Van, that was fun with three dogs, but we made the best of it. We quickly realized we were going to need a bigger camper and after looking at many other campers we found ourselves in a tow behind.

We Like to Chase OUR Dreams Too

We started traveling the US chasing adventures and having a great time. Our remote jobs made it easier to schedule our travels. We learned so much about RVing and the challenges that come with towing a home down the road. I quickly became a handy man and figured out how to make fixes. It was a steep learning curve and very different from working on a sticks and brick home. We really enjoyed the adventure and freedom. We began discussing selling our home and going full time. Soon the discussions became reality. We put our Florida home on the market, and it sold faster than we thought it would (1 day). We downsized quickly from a house to a 200 square foot camper. It was a hard process, but after numerous garage sales along with multiple donations, we did it. We hit the road, thinking “what did we just do?” You can see the concern on Diesel and Austin’s face.

Home Owners to Full-Time RVers

It was weird at first not having to pack up and head back “home”. We quickly adapted to the full time RVing lifestyle. I learned how to troubleshoot and fix problems that arise from taking your home down some of the best roads our country has to offer. I met other RVers that were running into problems along the way too. You can’t take your home to a dealership every time there is an issue, so you have to learn to fix it. At one of the campgrounds, I met a mobile RV tech…the wheels started turning. When we first started full timing, we thought we would do it for a year or so. We quickly realized that we were going to do this long term. You guessed it, we upsized to a 5th wheel.

It really felt like home now.

Lee found out about the National RV Training Academy in Athens, TX. I started doing research and found out they accept the GI Bill…I couldn’t sign up fast enough.
